He’s one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood. Over the course of his career he’s starred alongside quite a few good men; you could say he’s something of a Maverick, but the only thing that’s certain is he’s a Scientologist. Now rumor has it Tom Cruise will be playing the legendary Carroll Shelby in an upcoming movie.
The film, entitled “Go Like Hell” is being developed by 20th Century Fox and directed by Joseph Kosinski. Supposedly it’s been in production since 2011. It’s based on a book of nearly the same name that was published back in 2009.
The storyline takes place during the mid 1960s and focuses on the legendary Le Mans battles between Ford and Ferrari. Shelby was involved in these high-speed spectacles as were a number of other big names. At this time it’s uncertain who will play Henry Ford II, Lee Iaccoca or Enzo Ferrari.

Cruise’s last big racing film, Days of Thunder covered NASCAR and was released in 1990, but Shelby is a legend in the automotive world. Could this new role prove to be Mission: Impossible for the world-famous actor or can he pull it off? We’ll just have to wait and see because the movie is still far from finished. It probably won’t splash across silver screens until 2015 at the earliest.
